Overview: This CLE program provides a practical overview of the Franklin County Municipal Court’s probation policies, court-offered services, and community-based initiatives that impact day-to-day municipal court practice. Attendees will gain insight into probation department programs, key court resources such as the MARCH Program and Self-Help Program, and outreach efforts including expungement clinics and the Tap-In Center’s warrant-setting initiatives. The program also highlights MAT resources available through the court, equipping practitioners with a better understanding of the tools and services that support clients both inside and outside the courtroom.
- Review and discussion of the FCMC probation department policies and programs
- Review and discussion of court offered services, including the March Program and Self-Help Program
- Review and discussion of community outreach events, such as expungement clinics and the Tap-In Center setting aside non-violent misdemeanor warrants
- Review and discussion of MAT offered resources
Speakers:
Judge Jim (James) O'Grady graduated from Northland High School, Ohio Dominican University, and Capital University Law School. He was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio and a graduate of Columbus Public Schools. Judge O'Grady worked as a Bailiff in the Municipal Court during his undergraduate education and Law School. He assisted in the creation of the first specialty docket in the Franklin County Municipal Court and co-created the CAPIT program, the first counseling program in the nation specifically geared for defendants in the LGBTQ community. Judge O'Grady is also a co-creater of the Medicated Assisted Treatment program in the Franklin County Municipal Court aiming to treat individuals with opioid and alcohol addiction. He is the Chair of both the Court's Probation and Security Committees.
Elisha Zerman, Chief Probation Officer, Franklin County Municipal Court. Elisha oversees the department’s overall operations, manages the operating budget and ensures efficient departmental operations.
